Labyrinth - Dublin Fringe Festival, 2013

Tipo de proyecto: Live Events

Categoría: Director de arte

Descripción: Developed a First-Person Survival Horror video game to be played inside a sonic installation which explored the effects of infrasound on a person. This was programmed for Dublin Fringe Festival 2013 and installed in the 5.1 Surround Sound studio in Windmill Lane Recording Studios. The installation attracted people from all around the country and tickets sold out fast. In this game the player had to find his way out of a haunted maze, while trying not to get caught in a deadly fog. The only way to get out of the maze was to follow a mysterious voice that is guiding you. This game made use of binaural sound recordings and dynamic 3D sound within the game engine as a mechanic for navigation so the player wore headphones while playing. While playing this game the player was subject to high amplitude infrasonic sound waves which were being played through a 5.1 surround sound setup, and generated using a psychoacoustic technique called the missing fundamental. These sub audible frequencies are said to have a resonating effect on the human body which causes the subject to feel a heightened sense of fear and anxiety. This, along with the binaural sound in the horror game and a blend of eerie ambiences and low frequency sounds from inside the game such as heartbeats and footsteps also coming through the 5.1 system, made for a seriously terrifying gaming experience.
