Description: A radio documentary piece exploring the role of art in therapy for Autism Spectrum Disorder. A recent study out of Norway suggested that art therapy is an ineffective tool in treating those on the spectrum. Having a little brother with autism who was completely nonverbal before the incorporation of art in his treatment, I felt the nee to explore this subject further. I interview two artists on the spectrum and an art psychotherapist. This package was broadcasted on Resonance EXTRA in September 2018. Resonance EXTRA works with artists and broadcasters within the UK around the world to create live and pre-recorded radio programmes and artworks for broadcast. They’ve worked with artists from more than 30 countries and broadcast to a global audience of a quarter of a million people. More than 75% of their listeners come from outside the UK. Contributors: Patrick Samuel is a London-based visual artist from Trinidad. Marie Gorton, an opera singer from Hemel Hempstead. Dr. Janek Dubowski is a professort at Roehampton University in London.
